5V PWM Fans
November 22, 2016 09:13AM
Hello!

I am trying to wire up a P3Steel with Toolson Edition MK2 parts.
The build uses 5 fans - 2x part cooling fans (5V), 1x hotend cooling fan (12V) and 2x RAMPs fans (12V).

I am trying to figure out the best way to wire this up..

The hotend fans and the RAMPs fans should be running all the time, while the part cooling fans should be PWM controlled..
Which leads me to believe I should use a fan extender, which I bought. I then took the 12V near D2 and ran it through an LM2596 DC-DC Step Down Module to convert it to 5V and then use that on the fan extender.

Is this correct? The other fans I would wire directly to 12V where the power supply comes in or is there another source for 12V?

Disclaimer: I am just a hobbyist, I don't know much about electronics apart from what I learned messing around with 3D printers.
