RAMPS 1.4 marlin reprap console issue?
March 28, 2012 04:34PM
Finished build of Makergear Prusa.
RAMPS 1.4 (new from Ultimachine)
Installed Java 6 JDK,
Installed python 2.7 and 3.2,
Installed Arduino .22 and 1,0
Downloaded ErikZalm-Marlin-v1.0.0.RC2-0-g27f595a
Using arduino .22 I compiled Marlin and uploaded it.
Downloaded reprap-mendel-20110509.zip extracted it and copied files to C:/Program Files/Reprap
When I run the batch file I get the console and setup window.
Windows Device Manager shows Arduino Mega 2650 on COM3
When I hit the purple "Preferences" button and find Global port name the default is : /dev/ttyUSB0
I read that I should change it to "COM3"
Saved and closed the Reprap host software and restart it - Still shows COM3 -
XYZ tab - nudge each axis 10mm then Go and I get nothing
Should I not be able to move the steppers?

When you use the Arduino Serial Monitor after downloading, do you see the Marlin firmware header displayed?
If this is garbbled than you have the wrong serial spped selected. Which would make it so commands do not getexecuted on the reprap.

On the rep rap host software, do you get acknowledges from the the commands you sent?

Jakowisp,

Thanks, Will check the Arduino Serial Monitor in the morning. Here is my Pronterface screen capture. It appears to be communicating???? My heaters won't heat. Not too sure where to go from here. Thanks for the suggestion???

Its reading ambient from the bed sensor but zero from the extruder sensor. Marlin won't allow a heater to run if it doesn't get a believable reading to start with, the default limit is 5C. Fix your extruder temp sensor, then it should work.

Thanks Andrew,
Yes, the problem was the connector on the hotend thermistor. Took the connectors off and just soldered the wires and all is well - or at least I can now control temps and motors. Thanks all- making serious progress now.
