Traxxas rod end alternatives?
October 16, 2014 07:39AM
Hello everyone,

I am making my delta printer from scratch, and now I came to rod ends. Most popular ones seem to be Traxxas rod ends. Has anyone tried using other rod ends, like Igus Igubal bearings or other stuff?

Thank you for info

Holy smokes. 8 euro for 12 of those joints is a nice price, but freaking 26 euro shipping? ~50usd for ball joints? No way.

Hi,
I am building a delta as well, I use these, KBRM-03 MH. Some people in germany are very impressed by the tolerances.

Or you could read about them in English:

€3.40 each so a bit more costly than traxxas.

I just contacted them about ordering some of those rod bearings. I think they look like quality stuff.

Yeah, that shipping sucks. I bought them in a local shop. But you probably will not find them locally in US.

I just bought a set of those bearings for my printer. Even from US source they are nearly ~50USD. I just bit the bullet and bought them. Once my replacement hot end comes in it looks like I will be designing a new carriage and effector for this printer. The design I am using is unnecessarily heavy and large. It looks like I will be buying some metric bolts to get this done. As for linear motion, it looks like I will be sticking to smooth rods for now. In my second printer version I may do something else entirely to reduce the cost and increase stiffness.

The traxxas rod ends, looking back at them are no where near the precision required. I can see the effector rocking just in slop. Causes +-.2mm shake on the printer just due to the rod ends.

Have you managed to try Igus rod ends already?

I have not had a chance to try the igus rod ends yet. They are still sitting in a box. I recently moved and have other responsibilities to take care of before the printer. I will be getting to them in a few weeks.
