Snappy - Almost Entirely 3D Printed

After a couple of weeks of 3D printing and calibrating I have finally assembled a working Snappy. Snappy, created by RevarBat, is arguably the most 3D printable RepRap project. If your interested I have a build video found here: Youtube Video

One of the few things still made in America! My snappy.

Here are a couple of other facts about the build:I printed it on a Maker Gear M2 (200+ hours of printing) with PLA (25% infill). The project consumed about 3kg. Overall cost was $300. Firmware of course is Marlin on RAMPS 1.4.

What exactly was made in America? Or is this another alternative fact?

Assembled in America might be more accurate, and nothing to be proud of!


Now onto the printer.

Im a PLA user, but im well aware of its lacking in heat resistance.. becoming pliable at 60c

You have your heated bed, which will run from 50-105c depending what your printing, directly mounted on PLA mounts. This seems very unwise.

Similarly you have the hotend what looks to be directly mounted in PLA, any failure in cooling this will fail very badly.

Your also using PLA as rails??? That wont last long..

I don’t believe you got that 3DBenchy from this printer. Even after watching the video.

Your comment is a little negative, but I appreciate the input. I talk about most of your reservations in the video. I would never leave the 3D printer alone while printing and the tracks require constant lubrication. I know you are shocked that this contraption is able to work. I know I was! Its really a testament of my Maker Gear M2's precision. However, there are other people who have assembled snappy, and you can watch their videos as well. And yes assembled in America may be more accurate.

This is a bit harsh. If a "Made in America" project can't use raw materials sourced from outside the USA, I'd say that there are precious few things made in America. Or in any other country, for that matter.

Regardless, I'd say that to print and build a Snappy *is* something to be proud of.
