Stratasys SST768 extruder motor wire colors

Hello all,

Hope all is well with everyone on this always incredible forum!

I recently aquired a Stratasys Dimension SST768 for very cheap. The printer is currently non functioning, and i fear it may need a new 186 board ($$$$$$)

If this is the case, I plan on retrofitting it with a ramps board

I have built many of my own printers before, and have the theory of how to do everything, including the heated build chamber, down.

The one thing that I am stumped on however, is the extruder motors. They are coreless DC servo motors, with 6 wires. I know there is a project on using servos for closed loop control through the step and dir signals from the arduino mega, and I plan on implementing this to drive the extruder motors. However, I do not know what the color codes on the wires are. In the closed loop system, the guy is using a 4 wire system, 2 wires for power, and 2 wires for optical feedback. I believe this motor's encoder runs on a hall effect sensor, and I believe I can make it work with that system once I know the pinout.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I do have a good fluke DMM to test with. I know the motor runs on 12V, which is perfect! Other than that, I am stumped!

The reasoning for this, is to get the printer running with as little modification as possible. I only want to print ABS/HIPS with it.

Thanks again to this great forum!

What currently isn't functioning with the machine? I may have a 186 board available.

@Have Blue

The machine boots fine (hooked it up to a monitor and keyboard), but nothing ever shows up on the built in LCD panel, and the machine never homes. The fans spin up and the chamber heater turns on though. The status LEDs on the 186 board and SBC are as they should be, according to the service manual you sent me.

Thanks!

Hello all,

I also bought a SST768 for a very good price and it should be a good deal.

But everything is not so good.

First, I can't see the printer on the network ...
And now after opened the back door (to check the net cable), now the printer starts but make a loop on the display of Starting (with head goes to 100°C) / Initializing with head goes to 280°C and env. 75°C...

What I have done wrong, I don't know...

You talk about some Manuals (SBC, ...). How can I get them ?

I connect the printer via HTterminal and when I want to look the door, It gives an error, may be a lead ?

Tks by advance.

A few things here.

1. When you say you can't see it on the network, how is it hooked up? (Routers, direct, cabling, etc) make sure your firewall is open first.

2. When you say it goes into a loop what happens exactly.

3. Post the output of hyper terminal here throughout the booting process.

4. Get maracaex (floating around on the web) and "get config" if you can, and post that file back here.

About the network:
It is a small one with a hub and several PC (no firewall)
I use de Static address and it doesnt appear on the available listing in Catalyst or Maracaex...

About the main current issue, I'll post the exact message on the display tomorrow.

Just for information, if you type dl 1 (doorlatch) on HT, what the printer does ?

do you ever hear the door latch? Posting a video would be very helpful.

The output is pretty straightforward. the door isnt latching, or isnt being read as latched.

There is a magnetic switch that detects when the door is open, so you have to make sure that your door seals extremely well.

Listen for a clicking sound coming from the upper right of the door glass, that is your door latch. You can also take off the outer curved glass covering (it is just held on by velcro), in order to see the latch.

If the latch isnt clicking, it is a bad solenoid, and you have to either get it rebuilt, or buy a new one from stratasys.

The other option is only to be used with extreme caution!!!!! I hold no liability for anything that happens as a result of this information, and do not recommend performing the following procedure.

----Dip switch #4 on the 186 board (the largest board inside of your unit) can be switched to allow operation of the unit with the door open/unlatched. DO NOT UPGRADE YOUR UNIT'S SOFTWARE WITH THIS SWITCH ENABLED, AS YOU COULD BRICK YOUR 186 BOARD!!!!!!!!

hope that helps!

Tks for all your comments.

For the door, the magnetic switch is OK, when I open the door, the display prints "door open" !!!

And about latch, I've already check the solenoid (26 ohm and the pin goes out with 12V). It is more probably the command ... (what is the tension at the pins of its transistor ?)

So I will try your advice about the dip on the 186 board ( not the largest ? PCD is the largest on my model, 186 is on the upper right corner ?).
How do you know this kind of "cheat" mode ? (is it possible to have these informations ?) please eye rolling smiley

PS what is your machine number (by private MP ?)
