86HS120 motors and board connections for driver

Hi everybody,

I made a printer before but i am little bit confused on my new project. I will build little big one and i am gonna use 86HS120 step motor and M880A step drivers.

I have ramps 1.4 and Sanguinololu board.

Can i control my motor using m880a with these boards?

I am thinking that i will not connect a4988 drivers and will make wiring to my drivers. Will they work?

What you think about them?

To use external drives you just connect ground, direction and step pins from board to driver. You then connect power supply + and ground and steppers to extrernal driver.
Do not install a4988 drivers.
I just looked up the motor. These are huge motors, I can not imagine a 3d printer ever needing this big a motor. They are 5 times larger than my cnc machine used to mill metal.

Thank you george4657 for your answer. Do i need to connect enable pins and do i need to make any short circuit on board? I did read some forum that a4988 driver are short circuited while using. Should i make them?

Thanks again

If the m880a enable pin is not connected the driver will be enabled all the time. If you want to enable via software you need to connect it to the enable pin.
The a4988 shorts the sleep and reset pins. The M880A does not have these pins.
