Old printer stepper motors - Can they be used for prusa i3?
September 10, 2014 06:11AM
Hi everyone

I'm new to the forum and 3d printing in general.

I am planning on building (trying to) a reprap prusa i3 using spares I can salvage. I work a lot with big, floor standing printers so I have access to some fun parts to play with.
One question I have at this moment is whether the stepper motors in there will work for the project.

Here's the specs I can see on the motor:
6 wires coming out of it
Shinano Kenshi Co. LTD. China
Part number is B2381715B (can't seem to find references on google)
STP-42D2058-05
23Z86G stamped on the sticker
1.8 degree step, 2.8 ohm

I took some pics of the motors (found 2 more today that have the same specs)

The 3rd pic is the motor of which I have 2. Can I use these 3 motors in a prusa i3 build?

2.8 ohms is good and 6 wires is also fine. See [www.reprap.org]
