Scavenged Motor Database

Does anyone know if there is a site or database out there that can point users in the right direction when scavenging parts? For example, I got two printers, and a flatbed scanner for $20 from a recycle store thinking I was going to get some stepper motors out of them only to find the two printers each had 2 DC motors in them and the stepper in the scanner is 5 wire unipolar and not bipolar. It would be great to know what models to look for when finding something at a garage sale or recylce store. If not I might have to start one.....

The main issue is that there are way to many gizmo variations out there and far to little data (no manuals) on what's in them. Some of these outfits change motors more often than I change socks ....smileys with beer
