switching 5v regulator

Hey guys new to the forum and amazed by all the help I've gotten

So I noticed how dang hot the linear regulator gets on the Sanguinololu and was wondering if anyone has tried a switching regulator? I've seen some relatively cheap drop in parts online and was just wondering how you guys feel about them.

Thanks

issue is not the regulator...

issue is both the pc and the power supply attempting to supply power..

see [www.reprap.org] for a lot more info and methods to fix it.

Dust thanks for the response.

I am aware of the issue and I took care of, at least the shutting down of my computer by clipping and isolating the 5v pos of my usb cord.

Yet the linear regulator is still going to waste some power through heat because it is bucking 12v to 5v. I was just more curious about if anyone has used a switching regulator and noticed any improvements such as more watts to the heat bed which might improve heat up time.

Thanks
