i think i'm having the same sitution as Max.. here goes..
i've been trying to figure out whats the extent of damage on my sanguinololu board. i want to decide if i should replace the whole board or just the main board not including the stepper.
couple of month ago a metal pin fell in between the extruder connector resulting few wires spontaneously melted. Panicked, i immediately switch it off and after that my board is not connecting to Pronterface.
from the forums and raprap wiki it says i can use a simple terminal to communicate with the board but i'm a noob. i have no idea what is these guys are doing or saying

i tried using arduino IDE but cant tell heads from tails.
so my question is:
1) is there a step by step guide to troubleshoot my board?
2) is there a way to verify each of my components (motor driver, motor stepper, extruder/heater, etc) is still working?
please help. by mendelmax have a layer of dust now.. i havent even successfully printed my own name yet.. wooo :'(
