Low Latence EMC2 -- Questions --

Has any one considered the "Puppy Studio" cd to be used with EMC2. ???

The advantage is that "Puppy Studio" uses a Real-Time Kernel, and the Complete operating system is in RAM AT ALL TIMES. This should have a very small latencey.

"Puppy Studio" is a Multimedia version of PUPPY, but the method of getting the Real-Time additions to Linux are known in the PUPPY world.

It might also be possible to strip out the Multimedia programs.

I think that the problem about the realtime isn't only a matter of ram or hard disk, it's about processor management.
The default real time kernel is a good thing.
A real time kernel is necessary for the job, but not always enough.
Sometimes you have to tweak the power management of the pc and other stuff in the bios&driver to make the operating system working properly.

EMC2 now supports RTAI for 3.x kernels as well as Xenomai and RT-Prempt . The developer supported Live and install CD is Ubuntu but others use Gentoo, Arch or custom distros.
