Wrong starting position (out of printing area)
September 29, 2012 08:43AM
Hi,
I am running a RepRap Mendel Prusa. To generate the G-code I have implemented as a Slicer in Reptierhost Skeinforge.

For whatever reason, when I generate a G-code, as one of the frist actions before printing, the extruder wants to move to a position far outside the printing are (G1 X893 Y921 Z72 F600).

Any idea, how to correct this???

Here the first lines of my G-code:

G90
G21
G28
M103
M105
M140 S74.0
M141 S30.0
M142 S0.0
M113 S1.0
M108 S210.0
M104 S220.0
G1 X893 Y921 Z72 F600
G1 F7980
G1 E10
G1 F600
M101
G1 X893 Y922 Z72 F4800 E11
.....

Activate the Multiply plugin (module) and set Center (X,Y) = (100,100) before slicing your STL file.

Using the "Multiply" plugin seems to be one of the most famous solution for this issue (suggested in many other threads).
However, in my case unfortunately it does not make a difference. There must be something wrong somewhere else.

Here my generated G-code with Mulltiy turned on:

G90
G21
M103
M105
M140 S74.0
M141 S30.0
M142 S0.0
M113 S1.0
M108 S84.0
G1 X958 Y954 Z20 F600

After playing around, I found out the following:

it looks like all my dimensions are getting increased by a certain number. E.g. when I put in 100, 100 as the center, indeed the real center-position is something far greater, perhaps 1000, 1000 (I cannot tell exactly, I guessed this number from the 3D view).

Are you using Skeinforge or the Reptier host to generate the gcode?

I have never used Reptier but from what I have read you can also place the objects where you want them and combine several STL files onto one print plate as the original RepRap Host software allowed. There must also be some options as to where the center of the plate is.

If you are using Skeinforge outside of the Reptier host and have activated Multiply then it would only drive to such crazy coordinates if the object is really that big.

How about a link (URL) to your STL file.

Do you perhaps have scale turned on?

It is correct, that I can move the obejct with Reptier on the virtual printer-bed (on the screen). After that is done, Skeinforge can be called to make the g-code. However, this was not the problem.

Also it wasn't Scale, which was turned off.

Indeed, at the moment I am playing around with the export plugin. I changed from the option "Gcode Step" to "Do Not Change Output". Still the position is wrong, but not anymore on such a great scale like before. I believe, here is the place were my settings are wrong.

.... [ 10 min later] ...
Yes, that was the problem.

Have You checked that You are using the correct decimal (. in this case...)
You can go safe by not entering values manually but using the arrows on the side to change values...
