USB/SD card problem

USB/SD card problem
March 07, 2016 04:04PM
Im using Prusa i3 with a RAMPS and Arduino Mega. I had the printer working fine and recently upgraded the frame.
Now when i plug in the USB or the SD card the screen goes dim and flashes. After about 10 layers the machine just stops.

Any ideas on what could be the problem?

I would start by checking the 5V voltage regulator on the Arduino board. The graphic LCD pushes it right to the limit. If it gets hot it may shut down, too hot and it may not recover.

this only happens when i have the USB or SD card plugged into the printer. If i dont have them plugged in the printer acts just fine. At first i thought the issue could have been the power coming over the USB

If you changed the way the board is mounted you may have caused a short circuit. Check the wires, make sure the board isn't touching anything metal.

I removed the board from the printer and its sitting on plastic mounts right now and im still getting the same issue. Could it be that one of the boards is going bad?
