No extrusion when printing small areas.

My prusa i3 having trouble extruding plastic when extruding small amounts. Like for example this type of structure:

A while ago I didnt have this kind of problem. Printed this for example:

Now it's impossible..

I am using Repetier host and tried Slic3r and Cura. E3Dv6 extruder and black PLA plastic.

Any ideas what the problem might be?

My guess would be your retraction settings. It may be retracting too far, or not un-retracting (is that a word?) fast enough, causing the the pressure to not recover quick enough for small hops. I found the default retraction setting in Cura (4.5 if I remember right) to be way too high, and use 1.5 instead with a speed of 45mm/s.

Just tried those settings before you wrote! Your are right, retraction distance seems to be the issue. Stepped down from 4 to 2 and it seems to go much better now.

Not perfect, but it's getting there!

I have this issue too with ABS though. My retract is at 1mm at 40mm/sec
I cant not even think of printing stuff like this.
