Frame-Vertex Mendel has extra holes?

Frame-Vertex Mendel has extra holes?

I downloaded the Mendel Frame-Vertex_6off.stl file and loaded it into Solidwork. It look great, but has some extra hole in the center. anyone know what they are for?

I asked the core team the same question and got this answer from Adrian Bowyer: -

Well that is cool, I milled a bunch of these and it doesn't take long to have that extra hole in it.

I could not see a use for them as Im lazy I left them out on my plastic corner block version.

With MDF you can always drill it later.
