avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

Hello everyone

I am having a frustrating problem uploading my firmware into the microcontroller.
My model is Sanguinololu 1.3a Mendel
I am trying to upload Marlin firmware.
Having gone through the upload instructions, i downloaded Arduino IDE (Arduino 1.0.5) and also added Sanguino into the hardware directory.Fixed the bug with compilation.
However when I try to upload the firmware it gives an error

avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding

What could be the possible solutions??

A mysterious error we still have no clear solution for. Usually un- and re-plugging USB helps. Rebooting the PC, too.

upload baud rate changed from the older to the newer bootloader..

was 38400, now 57600.

If you have the older bootloader, edit the appropriate boards.txt upload baud rate
