Trying to understand Marlin default settings?

I'm very new to this whole firmware thing.and despite a lot of research and reading I am still struggling to get the correct settings on my Marlin And sprinter firmware. I have been looking for information that explains which each firmware is setup for hardware wise on a default settings. or if there is no default settings

The firmware well is pretty deep.

I found this page helpful in grasping some basics: Basic Marlin Configuration.h modification

Even just with Marlin things get pretty specific pretty quick depending on your printer family and build.
