I want to run two z axis stepper motors on my printer, each with their own driver. Does anybody have experience with what it takes to update Marlin or Repetier firmware to do this? I'm running a lot of current to each motor, that's why I don't want to run them both off of one driver. Thanks.

Im looking the same , want run z-axis motors from separate drivers, im plan to use driver on extruder 1 output, any one have experience with this?

I use 2 stepstick to run the motors in marlin the only thing you have to do is define Dual_z_stepper_driver in configuration_adv

Check my configuration files that i posted in other topic to see how i defined the dual stepper

Thank You, i aleeafy done this and works like charm.
I dont know why more people not do this, if you not using second extruder its wasting of RAMPS resurces
