referring to some old post about different kinematic designs:

i've found again the document comparing the possible accuracies of serial or paralle scara robots (3-rd side).
The kinematics/math is much simpler than with other parallel kinematics, so maybe an interesting design with dramatically lower parts count compared to common cartesian bots
