Choice Belt, wire line, guitar string?

Hi, i am starting to build my first printer, a prusa i3 now a dude come to my mint.
To move the carriage with the extruder the majority of printer use a belt,
but i see in the coreXY that use a string line.

So the question is wich will the cons and pros of one or other system of movement?

wich avoid the backslash.
which material use the coreXY ,

Thinking in a cheap solution the other day think to use a guitar string.
The larger strings-- strings 4, 5, and 6-- start out with a steel wire core that gets wrapped with nickel or phosphor bronze plated wire. it will be usefull?

Greetings

Guitar string simply won't be flexible enough to use. CoreXY printers use spectra braided fishing line.

Thanks for the reply,

But need to take a choice.

With wich can have more speed?
wich is better to avoid the backslash ?.

Take a look at this thread: [forums.reprap.org]

In short, the general feeling is that you may get some backlash with belts, but you may have tensioning issues with line. Line is definitely cheaper and possibly faster, but there's only anecdotal evidence to back the latter claim up.

My thought is that I've never seen precision timing string even for very lightweight applications. I have seen precision timing belt.

Both pulleys and 6mm wide 2mm pitch gt2 belts by the meter run < $2 if you look around. Cost isn't a huge concern imho.

First Printer
Build it as specified or with kit parts.
Why change a known working design.

The backlash from belts will not be seen unless you need angstrom resolution!

Will you be converting your prusa i3 to core XY

Large guitar string ?? will you be moving 100,000 pounds around
Timing belts have been used in dot matrix, ink jet printers for ever
with great accuracy and speed

Thanks for the replys,

I dont convert the prusa i3 to core XY, just i see that coreXY use fish line, then think the posibility to use instead of belt.

In my country 1m of belt 15usd, 1m of fishing is really more cheap.

A timing belt is a positive displacement device,
teeth provide reasonable accuracy and power transmission.
Costs more to make
100 steps of stepper motor = same displacement --- every time!

Fishing line NOT positive displacement
does not provide precise movements
100 steps of stepper motor --- line slippage ---- unknown displacement -- different each time?

SO ---- use cheap line ---- Add encoders to sense movement = $$$$$

Fishing does NOT require positioning of hook to 70 micron

So if you want really bad resolution use fishing line

If you can't afford a $15 timing belt --- you shouldn't be in 3D printing!!!

Go take one off a surplus ink jet printer??
