Gears for Mendel

Gears for Mendel

I bought one of those sets of molded parts from the fellow in Ireland. They are extremely rough but usable except for the gears, which are complete crap. I would like to just buy a set of drive gears but McMaster Carr does not ship to Canada and SDP/SI, my parts place of choice here, does not have a gear that is directly comparable.

How do I figure out what gears would work. I realize that it is a combination of diameter and number of teeth (pitch and bore size I understand) but I don't know how to calculate the correct # of teeth for a given diameter.

Can any engineers out there advise me?

I don't have my reprap in front of me, but for the number of gear teeth there is always the mark 1 tooth with a pen and start counting. You can use a ruler to
get the the overall diameter of the gears that were sent to you.

Or you can read a bunch of stuff at [en.wikipedia.org]

Basically though:
Pitch Diameter = (Number of Teeth)/(Outer gear diameter)

Hopefully someone with the info at hand will post it soon, if not
I'll try and post it tonight
