Has anyone experimented with teflon coated smooth rod? I got a shop locally that does teflon coating and am curious to try it.

What type of bearing/bushing would you be using on such a rod? I'd think any type of conventioanl bearing utilizing balls or a rolling metalic surface would quickly destroy any type of teflon coating. A teflon sleeved bearing or bushing might be suitable.

What type of Teflon coating, with ceramic?

I've specified a Teflon coating the type used on frying pans for fusion welding, and thermoforming.
I wouldn't use it in a bearing application, it would just flake off.
The coating is sprayed on, and is typically bumpy.

The dry teflon lube is good for indoor use.

OP has described a coating, not a lubrication.

There are Teflon impregnated aluminum rods. But a Teflon spray coating with steel ball bearings riding over it would fail very fast. It would also be hard to adjust for proper bearing tension, without the bearings slicing into the coating.

For light moving parts, sliding bearing and non metal material is also applicable.

8mm OD x 6mm ID PTFE/FEP tubing + 6mm OD steel rod perhaps?

I'm using teflon coated slide bearings (sorry for german link): [cgi.ebay.de]
I just use some printed PLA lm8uu adapters to fit them correctly.
