X shift/slip

X shift/slip

I have a problem where there is often (50/50) a slip/shift in the x axis. My printer uses Ramps 1.4, Repetier host and firmware and a rack and pinion drive for X and Y. I'm printing from Linux.

Does this look like either mechanical or lost steps as I'm assuming, or could it be software?

I have:

- Re-built the drive system from scratch to eliminate any friction.
- Tightened the pinion gear on the shaft of the stepper.
- Tried a range of reference voltages, recently checking that X and Y match.
- Gone to a maximum vref, beyond which I hear the stepper cutting out.
- Checked for slip in the bed.
- Installed the latest versions of everything.
- Tried raising / lowering the print speed

Any other suggestions?

Many thanks.

What version of Repetier firmware are you using? I am seeing a similar problem. I can print fine with different firmware, so I suspect a problem with the Repetier firmware.
