Sprocket for Ball Chain

I was at a very boring presentation and I started playing with the blinds (that cover the windows) and I noticed that not only was I holding a ball chain, it was connected to a special Sprocket which is apparently an Off-The-Shelf item....

see here:
[lh6.ggpht.com]

so regarding:
[blog.reprap.org]

I think that if the ball chain works out to be accurate enough than it is a possible replacement for the McMaster belt.

At first people could buy the off the shelf sprockets, and later when the RepRap gets more accurate it could print the sprockets itself.

... i (reversible) disassembled one of our windows-blinds and made some photos (appended) - the sprocket and the fastener/merger are reprappable parts ...

And we already had some discussion about beaded belts (here: [forums.reprap.org] ) or moulding beads over strings or connecting ball-chains (here: [forums.reprap.org] )
