Special fonts for laser cutting?
January 10, 2016 04:06AM
Hi,
I'm using inkscape now for generating gcode from pics and text etc.
I haven't found a font that is only one pixel wide.
Also looking for a font that is "military" style. I want to cut out text, without the letters "oO, e, aA ,bB" etc. falling apart.

Any link, where I can find such things?

... search for "single line fonts laser" or "einlinen font laser" - there's a lot of free download ressources.

Here is a download link for a 'cut out' TTF-font and some other fonts sorted by design or types:

I downloaded a few fonts from this site and installed it as usual in the windows/fonts directory.

They get recognized by inkscape, but be aware, that it can take several minutes before you see the inkscape screen, when you start it the first time afterwards.

Unfortunately the search engine of the site is not very good. You cannot search for font attributes, but only for their names, which can be misleading. I wish they had a subfolder for fonts, able to be lasercut.

I made a template to test the "woody" fonts I found.

Have you tried the Hershey Text extension that is included in Inkscape?
If you don't need too fancy fonts it might be what you are looking for.
There are also websites that offer fonts like you seek for download.
Most look a bit weird when you see them but after removing the infill you get the right picture.
Some are not stroke fonts but something more like a cut out, so the inside of a letter is cut out without the rest falling out.
