smart controller on RUMBA not working

I am installing RUMBA board with a smart controller "12864 LCD Smart Controller Display" .on my 3D printer.

1/
configuration.h file:
#define REPRAP_DISCOUNT_FULL_GRAPHIC_SMART_CONTROLLER
#define SDSUPPORT // Enable SD Card Support in Hardware Console

2/
u8glib has been installed, sketch compiles and uploads with no issue

3/
Cabling has been checked many times and reversed as a check

Symptoms:
- when the cables are reversed the screen is blue with a buzzing noise
- when the cables are installed per the recommended connection, the display black.
- turning the dial does not affect anything on the display but does flash red LED on RUMBA board
- Repetier can not communicate with the printer while the LCD is connected
- disconnecting the LCD from RUMBA allows Repetier to communicate with the board and control printer

Any thoughts that anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Chris

"Repetier can not communicate with the printer while the LCD is connected'

There is a hardware fault somewhere...

Check for solder blobs on the LCD board and on the RUMBA around the EXP1 and EXP2 pins

Thank you very much for your feedback Dust.
I checked the boards as thoroughly as possible for solder blobs and everything was clean.
You were correct though, it was a hardware problem.
The sockets on the RUMBA are upside down.

It turns out that I had to invert the connectors of smart controller to board by 180°.
To allow me to invert the connectors 180° I had to remove the alignment bumps on the connectors.
Once the connectors were flipped 180 the display works fine.

Well done on finding that!

I’ve heard of upside down connectors on 2004 lcds before but not on a Rumba

Some of these suppliers are so creative in their stuff ups!
