amperage to hotend

Hi folks,
I know this has probably been answered elsewhere buy I have been unable to
locate.
What is the typical amps that are needed to run a hotend at ABS temps?
Just curious because I want to tweak mine when it is finished and the amps
needed obviously affect what grade components I have to buy.

manu thanks,
Andrew

Depends on voltage and resistance. Divide voltage by hot end resistance to get the current. Most heaters are 30-40 watts which at 12 volts, equals 2.5-3.33 amps.

Measure the resistance of your heat bed in ohms and divide it into 12 (assuming you are using 12 volts). The quotient will be the amperage that the bed will draw.

EDIT: I misread - I thought you said heated bed. The same formula applies to the hotend though.
