Once the connect the communications cable and before they power it up, check continuity between Max232 pin 11 and PIC pin 8(TX) as well as PIC pin 7(RX) and MAX 232 pin 12. This will verify the wiring connections. If the Firmware is updated, couldn't we use a version number with a date and write up on that version.
