Do you guys think that a nema 17 is powerful enough to drive a pinch wheel extruder?
If so here are some cheap ones with splined shafts. [cgi.ebay.com] I just bought 6 to have around for various projects

The postage seems very steep and they are bipolar, but I suppose you spotted that?

I bought one of these for a tenner this week:-

To replace a bipolar one I had. They are lovely motors, very solid and strong as they use a rare earth magnet. Unfortunately, I didnt realise it was biploar until too late so Ill have to set up a H bridge as a driver :-(

I understood that we were using bipolar nema 23 steppers for the stages. why would bipolar not work for the extruder?

Bipolar is fine, actually if you're using the standard reprap electronics you're stuck with it. I think he was talking about another driver he has?
Yep, I've only just realised that the reprap kit uses bipolar, for some reason I thought of was all unipolar! I must read things more carefully!
