Nichrome wire for extruder hot end??

Along with 4 stepper drivers, I've also managed to completely fry my nichrome wire that connects my m6 heatcore to my RAMPS. Now because I've ordered this hot end kit from overseas (I'm in aus) it's difficult to get an exact replacement so I've gone and bought some uninsulated nichrome wire (was the only available). Is there anything important I'm missing here? Should I cut approximately the same length? Or is it a resistance thing? The wires are completely different from the originals supplied in the kit. And if possible could someone please explain the necessity of the nichrome as opposed to normal wire when supplying power to a heater. I know it's a lot of questions for one post, so any help is appreciated :-)

Thanks in advance
Tom

You don't connect the heater with nichrome. Nichrome is used for making heaters. You should use copper wire to connect the heater to the board.
