hi,
this probably isn't relevant for about 99.9% of people, but while we have been building our Darwin, the most convenient computer we had for running the software was an old Apple G3 laptop (PowerPC) running Ubuntu. if anyone else adventures down the same thawny path, we have put some notes on our wiki:

so far, it seems to work, but it takes some time. fortunately we had enough people involved in our build that we could afford to have someone messing about compiling PowerPC binaries of things while everyone else got on with soldering and assembling
