How much power does a 12v PSU use when idle?

How much power does a 12v PSU (the kind required to power a reprap) consume when it is idle, ie. not powering anything but still connected to the mains? I ask because i am trying to set up a remote printing system. i dont want to leave it on all the time if it uses a sizeable amount of juice but if its negligible then thats cushty. i tried switching the supply with a relay but after the switch got stuck in on mode(fused together?) after a print i realised that the relays were way under in terms of their current capability. i could invest in one which can handle 30A but they need 12v to switch and so would be a pain to implement. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks.

I use one of the inexpensive 12V 30A supplies and with my system powered on (Mega 2560/RAMPS) but nothing else running it uses about .7A @ 12V. The AC amount is negligible.
