Headless cnc router?

Is it possible to build a headless cnc router without using a computer by using the same full graphic smart lcd controller 12864 my reprap 3d printer uses?
all the homemade cnc routers I have checked uses a standard computer to deliver the gcode to the arduino powered cnc

you could hold the spindle with your hand and not use G-code?

you could have wires from motors on a terminal strip
and touch power wire to each terminal to move motor you want to move

3 friends could be posted each on a motor
you could yell out your own Stooge code to coordinate movement?

hook up a pacman joystick to switch motors on and off

you could make up a pantogram type device and use hand / arm muscles to move around

move pointer on your paper and crayon drawing with mechanics moving spindle

Power controller ----- cmd X, Y, Z thru controller interface ---- freehand routing

there are many cnc machines that use sd card in controller --- no computer?
