Dropbox Public Folders Going Away - Now what?
March 01, 2017 05:40PM
So, with Dropbox dropping the public folder, which seemed to have been the normal method used to post images in forums, what is another way to post images in messages so you don't have to go to another web page to see it?

I was able to do this...

Now I have to do this...
OctoPi Case

Any other solutions other than dropbox to allow the original way? I'm ready to dump dropbox because of this.

... why not use the forums uploader?

Simply attach the image (rescale it eventually for a lower size), then "create a link in message" ...

... to place it inside of your text ...

Okay. Did not know you could do that. Well, good-bye Dropbox.

Thanks.

Google Drive?

If I'd put the above image on google drive, I could be sure to land on NSA's and BND's "list".
I'm no fan of "cloud " services anyway...

You can still use Dropbox to host images for this forum. Here is an image that I have in one of my ordinary Dropbox folders.

The trick is, when pasting the link in this forum between the image tags, you need to replace "?dl=0" at the end by "?raw=1".

That made me laugh. What do you think DropBox is/was.

Postimage works but has had a wobble recently where there was talk of it shutting down. I think disaster was a averted. The forums own image store is best as the images should remain as long as the forum does.

If you're a Windows user [www.bricelam.net] gives you a right click option to resize.

Stone the crows, it works!

Never knew this option existed. (I am talking about creating the link in msg option)

Image is me playing with a bard-air type cooling on my integrated piezo effector test.
So basically I am testing an image option with an image of me testing cooling on a testing rig for testing piezo sensor calibration tests.

Reminds me of when I was making a tool, to make a tool, to make handles for a tool used to sharpen my tools.

If you think they haven't already associated those images with you, you have grossly underestimated the NSA. They have your phone calls, emails, browsing history (who would have imagined you were into clown pr0n?), passwords, etc.

DjDemonD: How do you trick the forum into hosting the image? I usually post images to a public file on my web site, that way you can see full resolution images. Of course, if I ever pull them they disappear from the forums. Web hosting is pretty cheap these days, especially for noncommercial stuff like this. Most ISPs provide some web hosting for free with your internet service subscription.

Just resize your image so that it's below 640kb approx. Then upload it with " attach a file" once you've done that a "create link in message" button appears click that.

That's exactly what doesn't work for me. I see the create... button and when I click it, the cursor appears in the message box, but no link or anything else...

Put the cursor where you want the image in the message, then click the create link in message button.
