Hi all,
I'm planning on using a pololu a4988 driver instead of the stepper motor controller board mentioned on reprap site. The only differences I see between the two are the connections to endstops. How do I take care of the endstops with pololu board ?

What electronics are you going to be using? What electronics on the reprap site were you looking at?

Is there a specific reason you want to use Gen2? It is quite outdated and you will have trouble getting any modern firmware to run it.

Actually I don't mind switching to to a sanguino based board (generation 3) either. Assuming that I'm using a generation 3 motherboard (sanguino), is there a way to use pololu stepper driver with endstops (instead of the standard reprap stepper motor driver ?

Take a look at [reprap.org] . Endstops on modern RepRap controllers are connected directly to the main board rather than through the stepper driver boards.

Aah.. Thanks Camaron. That would solve my problem.
If what I read in the link is correct, a single sanguino without any breakout boards is sufficient to connect every thing without seperate boards required for DC motor control/PWM. So it has 3 steppers headers, 1 extruder header, and pins for power supply, end stops etc. Is this the case ? (just wanted to confirm because I'm pretty new to this stuff)

The Sanguinololu has all of that in one board, no separate boards are required to run the printer (other than the stepper drivers that are socketed in). A Sanguino board its self doesn't have all that built in.
There are plenty of electronics choices around now. RAMPS is another good choice, especially if you happen to already have an Arduino Mega. It also supports dual extruders.

May I chime in and say that you could just breadboard your sangulino and have something cheaper?
just depends on what you are looking for.
You will need the i/o pins and the corresponding programming for those pins.
Also you could use arduino 328 if you are using sprinter or teacup firmware. Here is a breadboard example of arduino [www.jameco.com]
