VIDEO POSTED! Details about the BerryBot3D

That's pretty easy to do. Didn't think about spinning the stepper motor to grind down the shaft like you did. Neat idea.

What kind of CNC do you have? Looks like you have a pretty well equipped shop to make your 3d printer so nice.

Hi Guys, Jim, one of the first machines I built was a CNC router. It’s an awesome machine with dual spindles (water cooled). I mostly machine aluminum with it and it does a great job. Its big and heavy duty at about 38" x 54" Here are a few pics:

I am a big fan of the BerryBot3D build as you already know. I would love to see some build notes and more details on the actual build. Thanks. I was never a fan of rostocks before the berrybot. Keep up the good work and happy building my friend.

Nice CNC you have there Berry!

I have a couple of small cnc machines that is great for making small parts. Currently putting together a larger 60"x36" router using thk rails and ballscrews I bought off eBay. First priority is to finish my 3d printer....

Looks like you used some kind of v-bearing for the z-axis but can't tell what kind of linear rail system you used for the x & y axis. Keep up the good work. Can't wait to see what you have planned next.

Dumb question, but I have waded through past post to no avail. What are your plans for this design. Open source, kit, just plan,etc...
Thanks,
Richard Konnen

Hi Jim, Richard, Jim the linear rails are Makerslides from Inventables: [www.inventables.com]
Richard I am putting together some more videos to share everything I can about my design. I think that anyone with the “WILL” and tools should be able to build one just like it or better. I will try to get the video up this weekend. It will be a talk about the importance of a good frame/ foundation with the goal of precise and accurate prints. As it turns out it is totally doable and for not much money!!

Werner,
Thanks. Look forward to the info. We are working with our precision machine class students to give them a 3D printer project to do and I think they would enjoy this one.

Richard

I would 'not' push BerryBot3d to sell a kit yet. It seems like he has a lot of good ideas, and lets let that alone radiate for a while.
BerryBot3D Details - High Volt Platen VIDEO!

Thanks James, If you interested I posted a video talking about the making of my High Volt platen. You can see it here: [www.youtube.com] I hope you like it. Please leave a comment and thumbs up if you like it!

Happy building and printing!

Dear Werner,
as an alternative to sharpening, if the filament passed through an annular coil, the coil heats up and the filament is is evenly heated locally and pulled it should stretch and taper, coils cools then a little blade snaps out and cuts the filament... another project, lots of hardware, a PLC =)

This is the best looking Delta machine I have so far seen, and the precision is convincing. It would be great to mass produce it - perhaps with the moving parts as low-mass as possible. That is my lingering concern about these machines - high moments.

Hi CozyGirrl, OK so we want to go there do we? Well…… with the BerryBotExtrude unit mounted on top of the BerryBot3D running out of filament is thing of the past. With a build platform 6 times the size of Replicator 2 there is a real need to have an endless supply of uninterrupted filament. Just top off the 5 pound hopper and let-her print away. There will be no need for sharpening filament at all? Now we can use .5 mm nozzle for quick printing large parts like race car intake manifolds. Using the print as a plug we can easily make sandcast molds to make some awesome aluminum parts, not just one but many of them?
Happy printing!

I think the next thing everyone needs are dual heads - use PLA as a support material for ABS. You can dissolve the PLA in a heated ultrasonic tank (60C) with 120 grams of sodium hydroxide per liter of water.

Werner, your machine looks awesome. Any chance on a more detailed look at the actual hot end construction? It looks like it works great!
Thanks,
Nate

Hi Rsilvers, Dual heads is easy, if you would like to make complex parts like in the attachment, no need to deal with the mess of dissolving just use KISSlicer and support. It will amaze you!
Happy printing!

Are those miniguns something you printed or the ones printed on the Type-A Machine?

Yes miniguns not by me, printed on a Fablicator solid PLA. First try! Very Cool.

Fablicator looks really nice and rigid. That is important to me. I find it strange how designs that nice don't get made when there are so many feeble machines out there.

Fablicator build area is 7x7x7 though. Too small for me.

This is both large and rigid:

Are the three 1/2" dia x 1" standoffs ceramic as electrical insulators just in case the heating elements shorts to the platen? As opposed to aluminum.

Since the platen is screwed down to the base, how is planarity established with respect to the head? Can this be done in software calibration setup?

Did you trim anything off of the 1000mm slides or use the full length?

...Chrissi
Re: VIDEO POSTED! Details about the BerryBot3D
April 26, 2013 12:26AM
Hey Chrissi, The ceramic standoffs are more of a thermal insulator than electrical. One of the things on my list to do is add a ground wire from the platen plate to the frame. My thinking is that should there ever be a problem the GFIC would trigger. I also have a 10 amp fuse on the platen line. The platen was within about .01 in planarity with the top which works out well. I should have gotten it within a few 10ths but never the less getting it dialed in could not be easier. I just adjust my micro adjustable top end limit switches. This in turn trues the head to the platen, very easy. As you know the software can help to fix a lot of issues but almost all at a compromise. I will spend 10X the amount of time to build as true as possible only then look at tweaking the software. I am going to share my latest print with and one I am most proud of. Please don’t take offense it is for mature members only!! Must be 18 year or older….. I wish I could say it was my first try but it took 3. The first two I tried to slice using vase (shell only) with no luck. All pics are untouched still on the printer just after completion.
She is truly beautiful!
12hours print time
8.5" tall
1.75 ABS
.35 tip
KISSlicer with 33% straight infill
.200 Layer height
At a speed of 30mm
I had no idea this printing stuff would turn me on the way it has…. Haha
Happy printing!
Werner

If that speed was 30mm/sec - what is the fastest you can run it and not see a drop in quality?

It would be awesome if you could post a sharp photo of the same model built with the same settings except at 60mm/sec, 120mm/sec, and 240 mm/sec - along with their build times.

BerryBot3D Thermal Containment Accessory "VIDEO"
April 27, 2013 01:59PM
If you have a Delta printer you are going to want to see this video!
The BerryBot3D Thermal Containment Accessory is use to minimize warpage when printing with ABS. This video talks about a simple way to make a thermal chamber for use on a Delta Printer. I perform a test on a real world functional part, with and without the use of thermal containment. This test shows a significant difference in dimensional accuracy when printing ABS using thermal containment. Please comment and give thumbs up if you like it!

I just can't search that way on my iPhone. Anyway, I found a computer and saw it. I will make sure to enclose my machine.

Here are some other ideas - four arms and also a different way to do three arms:

It would be good to try a 250 watt infrared head lamp in the top pointing down and the build area and see if that helps prevent warpage.
