Cost of using heated tray.

Seems to me that a heated tray/plate to stop curling of parts is not going to be cheap to run as it uses a lot of energy.
I can see why nophead makes trays full of parts in one go.

Has anybody calculated the cost of producing a complete set of Mendal parts i.e. Cost of Plastic, Cost of electricity.

Yes, the cost of the electricity is very small compared to the plastic. The machine is about 40W, the lights about 20W and the bed less than 100W when it has warmed up. It takes me 48 hours to print about 1kg of plastic. The plastic cost about £20. The electricity @ say 10p / unit would be 48 * 0.16 * £0.10 = £0.77.

My PC takes more power than my heated bed! If I wanted to reduce the energy cost I would run from an SD card but its not much compared to the plastic. To reduce the plastic cost you have to use granules but the real cost of making parts is the time to tend the machine if you live in the first world.
